Runway: Palm Angels SS19' Menswear

After unveiling their first sneaker silhouette earlier this week, Palm Angels hit the runway in Milan to show off their entire new offerings for S/S 2019. According to designer Francesco Ragazzi, this collection was inspired as follows, "Basically, I started the idea for this collection back in February, thinking of Yosemite National Park. Then I started working with Under Armor. And then I did the thing in Miami with Swedish House Mafia. All of that came together in this weird way (Vogue)." As we have seen in previous collections, Ragazzi tends to clash multiple ideas and genres into one mood board, and it ends up working in a unique way. This season brought us a lot of unique products such as clear iPhone carrying pouches, all over pine tree printed garments, and collaborative Under Armor tracksuits (excellent move by UA getting other cool brands/ people on board with collaborations). While the internet fashion police Diet Prada have already taken to Instagram to condemn Palm Angels for referencing previous design motifs from the likes of Prada, Raf Simons, and Louis Vuitton, I believe Palm had their own take on those reference points. Not to mention that all designers pull inspiration from past designs, photo references and personal nostalgia from their idols. With that being said, I believe this is one of Palm’s best seasons yet and is only going to further the popularity and market share of Palm Angels. While others will continue to nay say, Francesco Ragazzi will just continue to grow his brand season to season. What are your thoughts on the upcoming SS19’ season?
