Fear of God's 5th Collection References 90's Jocks and Hip-Hop
Jerry Lorenzo has just unveiled his Fifth collection for his LA based brand, Fear of God. The new collection is very heavily inspired by 90's jock as well as the Los Angeles culture in the 1990's. The Fear of God fitted cap is reminiscent of a Detroit hat that members of N.W.A would wear in the "Straight Outta Compton" era. This collection is very different from the Fourth in terms of style. It still has the same vibe with the campaign video, but this collection is way more Hip-Hop than it is Rock n' Roll. This collection is very LA with its use of nostalgia of the 90's, and even some of the looks even look like you could be selecting your character on a GTA video game. For the clothes themselves, there is a lot more branding on garments compared to anything Jerry has done thus far. The long sleeved tee that reads "Fear of God Jeans" on the sleeve is a huge reference to the OG streetwear brands such as Fubu. The sheer size of this collection is massive. With new silhouettes ranging from a leather jacket, a fur, and even tartan trousers. A couple new colorways of denim were introduced as well in this collection. A light wash plain jean, multi colored jean, and even a raw denim colorway. Jerry has a lot more variety in his clothing as well as shoes this time around. Do I love the full collection? No, but there are some defining pieces within that I think are pretty good. Among these are the tartan pants, track pants, the corduroy bomber, and the varsity jacket. You know how we feel about the basketball sneaker, but as a collection I gotta give Jerry credit for switching it up.
