NYFWM: Second Layer

Out of all of the brands that showed and presented this past week at the second men’s New York Fashion Week, Los Angeles based brand Second Layer managed to make itself stand out amongst the rest.

The presentation itself was nothing too special, just a small room with about eight models lined up along the front. However that particular set up gave a really relaxed vibe amongst the room. The music that played was also really fun, so much so that even the models were dancing and interacting with the crowd. In that sense, it wasn’t your normal presentation and it was really fun to see.

As a native Angelino, I can definitely say that the manner of the clothing really reflected the laid back feeling of Los Angeles and therefore did a great job representing the brand as well, who’s Instagram bio solely and clearly says, “LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA” (clearly, they’re proud.) Most of the models were just in cozy sweatpants and sweatshirts with messy hair and minimal makeup, which not only is very Los Angeles, but it easily made this collection and presentation the most relatable for all young adults who saw it. Sweats weren’t the only pieces featured, however. There was some constructed outerwear and even a few deconstructed jackets, but all in all, the clothing was focused on being oversized and comfortable.

There are no definitive words for what this presentation was, but it was awesome to see.
