Ernest W. Baker SS23 - Traditional Tailoring with an Adolescent Twist
Ernest W. Baker presented their SS23 collection last week, opting for a digital demonstration to showcase their latest creations. The collection referenced the label’s earlier SS20 collection, one rooted in innocence and guileless irony. The result is traditional tailoring with an adolescent twist - think less of Hedi’s Celine and more of Casino, but directed by David Lynch. Founders Reid Baker and Inês Amorim used the lens of childhood to produce “sartorial comfort food” - signature sleek menswear staples, designs and silhouettes open to interpretation, and clothes which draw beautiful parallels between the past and present. “Everything that we have referenced over time has made us who we are. They are here, blended within us as we build our future as a brand, in the same way that memories form a person. We adapt to the times with our designs but at the core, what we do is always original and truthful to who we are. And since fashion isn’t about being a crazy artist in your own little space or faraway studio, we returned to Paris with a physical showroom and installation. An intimate format still, but nothing compares to physically seeing a reaction. To see that we’re incorporating into peoples lives in a way, and in return, that they are coming into ours, an essential part of our creative process.” – from Ernest W. Baker
