Runway: Tom Ford F/W21

Remember sex? Even if you don’t, worry not, because Tom Ford hasn’t forgotten. It’s about time sex came back into fashion. The pandemic saw clothes becoming tighter but they weren’t sexy. Sorry your sweats and t-shirts you have been wearing for a week cause you are too busy doing dishes just don’t have that edgy flare. Funny enough, sex has not been in the fashion world for a while and up until now it stayed firmly out of the reach and mind of designers and patrons alike. It does not really come as a surprise as over the past few years the fashion industry has had its priorities fixated elsewhere. Clothes to make a statement and cement individuality; Shying away from perversities of dressing to get undressed… We have also seen wondrously voluminous and textured clothes grace digital runways that told us firmly what we are feeling but maybe not admitting. Many people are lonely and they miss touch, something real and tactile.

Echoing off the sentiments of us all, Tom Ford gave a collection with one clear message: Sex is back in fashion! “The slight deconstruction of luxurious pieces is something that I feel will be a legacy of the pandemic for a few seasons to come.” Tom Ford gave us a collection that honestly might be sexier than anything he ever did when he was at the helm of Gucci. A legacy of the pandemic will be the return of sexy. The exacting and exuberant tailoring that Tom is known for makes a comeback in this collection but gives a structure that says “I got dressed to get undressed.” Silk loungewear with soft-patterned robes for after the fact. Fashion has the ability to reach out and touch every aspect of our lives and much like sex, Tom Ford’s FW21 collection told us not to overthink it, just seduce!
