Libero Styles the Perfect Crime: Heist of '77 Collection

Culturally, we’re infatuated with the idea of the “renaissance man”. You know, the anti-hero that looks good in whatever they’re wearing, so deftly doing whatever they do. The way they carry themselves, dress, their inflection when they speak, every feature of their being influences one’s ability to empathize with them. And their hair is probably perfect.

Whether you agree with the character’s motives or not, you still root for them. Maybe you appreciate how they carry themselves or, perhaps most importantly, that they look impeccable while they, say, plan a heist.

Libero, a Toronto-based brand and FMF favorite returns with their 4th collection, this time inspired by blockbuster heist films of the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Titled Heist of ’77, the collection touts a mood and looks informed by classic films such as Ocean’s 11, and The Thomas Crown Affair, widely regarded as foremost celebrations of male sartorial self-expression. These movies set style and class at the forefront of their production, with each character meticulously groomed, down to the very last detail. Sinatra, McQueen, Davis Jr. - all renaissance men who headlined these very movie posters.

As they do so well, Libero distills the theme and aesthetics of their influences into a small but considered delivery. Inspirations inform their designs, they don’t dictate them. If these films were a celebration of sartorial self-expression, then Heist of ’77 is a modernized melting pot of that.

“Libero Heist of ‘77 is the blueprint for the renaissance man. The core pieces symbolize the nature in which anyone is able to adapt to unforeseen environments while taking full advantage of the opportunities presented to them.”

- Adam Appugliesi, Libero Founder

In the world of Libero, quality and wearability are old friends, thick as thieves. Pulling off a heist requires a degree of mobility and utility and, lest we forget, luxury.

To quote Steve McQueen as Thomas Crown - “you in, or you out?”

Runaway Coat

It wouldn’t be Libero season without at least one standout piece of outerwear and the Runaway Coat may be one of their strongest contenders thus far. Constructed from velvet and featuring rich colors that swirl into a deeply hypnotizing paisley pattern, this is what you’d wear while planning the perfect crime. Toeing the line between extravagant and subdued, donning this coat will turn heads - just as any polished renaissance man would.

Macchiato Blazer

Full gauge, full peaked lapels, and a structured fit make for a most functional blazer, paving the way for the rest of one’s outfit. Multi-functional, this coffee blazer can be paired up and down - smartly dressed up with tailored trousers or thrown on up top to give more weight to a cozy silhouette. Adaptable, like any renaissance man worth their salt should be.

Club Vest

Heavy on the prep with none of the pompousness, this vest will fit snugly under the aforementioned blazer or showcased on its own. This is Libero’s contemporary take on the wool waistcoats and sweater vests that anchor many a sartorial suit, though their version affords itself the flexibility to be worn in a multitude of ways. Wear this at the golf course and enjoy the perks of your Club Libero membership.

Heist of ‘77 Shirt

The distillation of this collection in a graphic tee, this long sleeve features branding on the front, with a vintage-style illustration of a heist carried out. The figure, donned in Libero, makes their (hopefully) successful getaway.
