Brand Spotlight: Harmony Paris
With tailoring moving back into the forefront of designer’s minds and back into the cultural zeitgeist, we have seen an uptake in classic menswear pieces in recent collections. However, few brands are doing it as well as Harmony Paris. Because who doesn’t like well-crafted French style pieces made of the most ostentatious materials in Europe? People are looking for timeless pieces to add to their wardrobe that is absent of fickle trends. Harmony is one of the standout brands creating the garments that will be in your closet for years to come.
David Obadia got his start interning for Stéphane Ashpool at legendary brand Pigalle while in college. He later went on to start his own brand Brooklyn We Go Hard (BWGH) in 2010, which was able to achieve a high level of success within the industry in a short period of time. BWGH funneled Obadia’s passion for contemporary art as the main driving force for the streetwear brand. BWGH had noteworthy collaborations with the iconic Parisian store Colette as well as numerous collaborations with both Puma and Asics. Obadia has always been fond of streetwear and continues to be, however, he had a desire to create a brand that offers sophisticated pieces that are reminiscent of his childhood in France.
Harmony was founded by David Obadia in 2014 as a way to offer the customers of his previous brand BWGH, a more upscale option. Harmony is Obadia at his finest. The brand finds a way of organically fusing David’s love of fashion, contemporary art, film, and music into each of his collections. Obadia’s vision for Harmony is to provide his customers with a practical wardrobe that has a piece for every occasion while embodying classic nonchalance Parisian style. Obadia wants to continue to reinvent the modern idea of luxury with Harmony. Harmony prioritizes limiting quantities and extremely high-quality standards to ensure the pieces can last a lifetime. Harmony doesn’t charge exorbitant prices for its garments, and instead, charge fair prices with full transparency to its customers. Perfecting details on production, premium fabrics, and collaboration lay at the heart of what makes Harmony the brand it is today. The elegance of Harmony is birthed out of its simplicity.
As a cognoscenti of contemporary art, David has been able to have art play an instrumental role in his design process, store design, and across the brand’s social media platforms. Obadia’s favorite artists, such as Yves Klein, have influenced him greatly and serve as regular motifs within his collections. The Harmony flagship store located in the 3rd ARR. in Paris is a must visit in the area, if only to enjoy the beautiful, minimalist interior.
So, now that you’re all caught up on the brand, you’re probably wondering what to pick up so you can look like you’re just getting back from your holiday at your favorite chateau in the French Riviera. I’ve got you covered.
Celestin-Bleached Denim Shirt
The traditional denim Oxford shirt, but with a twist. The shirt is made up of stoned washed Japanese denim by Maison Kurabo, which is one of the well-renowned spinning mills in the world. The authentic mother-of-pearl buttons, contrast color topstitching, and classic fit will make this the last denim shirt you’ll ever have to buy.
Wulf-Camel-Lambswool
I really love this knit from Harmony. It’s extremely simple and timeless. It sports contrasting stitching around the collar and is made up of lambswool from Scotland’s Z. Hinchliffe and Sons and manufactured in Italy. It’s a perfect slim knit to wear on cool summer nights or to layer under your outerwear of your choice during the winter.
Vladmir Double Breasted Blazer & Peter Trouser
If you’re still looking for that perfect summer suit, then you should check out Harmony’s Vladmir blazer and the Peter trousers. Both the blazer and pants are made up of a cotton-linen blend with a slim fit. Perfect for your next trip to the Amalfi Coast!
Harmony just released their new lookbook for Fall/Winter 2020 curated by David Obadia and Emily Oberg. The collection is titled “Youth, La Giovinezza”, which references the Italian film Youth, directed by Paolo Sorrentino. The collection includes many F/W staples that will be perfect for the cooler months, such as wool overcoats, oversized blazers, and heavy knitwear. The upcoming collection has me truly excited about what Obadia has in store for the future of Harmony.
