Why Mr. Saturday Thinks A Travelling Museum is important
When I first met Joey Gollish in his Paris showroom for F/W19, I was immediately transported to a different time and place. As his brand, Mr. Saturday, takes deep references from the 70's & 80's nightlife and associated drug culture - the brand has been able to create a deep-rooted commentary on the past. Fast forward to January 2020 - Mr. Saturday teamed up with The Weeknd’s Canadian creative incubator, HXOUSE, and Rémy Martin for an experiential concept entitled "Index". Conceptually, Index has a variety of different elemental components that create an immersive experience. To begin, "Index" is comprised (but not limited to) of a pop-up shop, an archival section of past collections, a dinner party, and an after-party. For Mr. Saturday, curating an immersive experience each season has become one of the brand's codes. Featuring pieces from the brand's archive and having exclusive pieces to commemorate each occasion as a sort of "souvenir." Mr. Saturday takes a documentarian approach to creating a wearable museum of nightlife and fashion history. Index is the traveling physical manifestation of the idea of having a "museum." As the brand continues its growth, supplemented by seasonal activations in Paris and other fashion hubs with boutiques that stock it - Mr. Saturday will continue to exhibit and curate museum-like experiences as part of "Index".
