RUNWAY: CELINE F/W20
Hedi Slimane's Parisian Bourgeois vision for the CELINE Man and Woman continued in his 4th collection at the French Maison. F/W 20's show notes by Slimane included "a ma mère," which translates to "To My Mother." It was clear that Slimane's Parisian women have a personal connection to his observant youthful eyes growing up in France in the 1970s. Overall, Slimane has revisited the archives of CELINE from the '60s & '70s to create heritage-inspired collections with his own design DNA infused into them.
As for the men's offering, this season Slimane quite literally elevated heights (of heels) of the Celine Man. In contrast to his, Saint-Tropez inspired SS20 Collection- F/W20 revered back to luxury velvet smoking jackets with flared trousers in the same material paired elegantly with lavaliere detailed blouses and high heeled boots in exotic leathers. Masculine-Feminine has been a descriptive word for Slimane's designs throughout his career and it was very apparent in this collection. The variety of lace & silk blouses styled elegantly under 3-piece suits pushed the idea of androgyny and elegance. Some of the standout pieces include the Furry camel coat, the brown velvet blazer, the white python boots, the velvet trousers, and the velvet shawl collar blazer in a rich Bordeaux color.
Slimane has been known for his design consistency from season to season and his F/W20 collection is not exempt from that. However, I believe that this is the strongest collection from Slimane since taking the creative helm in 2018. Be sure to swipe through the full men’s assortment from F/W20 above.
