Runway: Amiri S/S21
Sitting in the photographer’s booth in Paris’ Trocadéro at the Amiri F/W20 presentation back in January, I could not have imagined how the world - and the world of fashion - would change in the months to come. While much of the world continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic, luxury brands around the world have turned to entirely digital presentations and virtual showings. Mike Amiri and his team took advantage of the state of affairs with their S/S21 collection - taking their audience back to their homecourt of Los Angeles where the brand was born and has thrived. Using the iconic Sheats-Goldstein residence as the backdrop for the collection, Amiri convinced homeowner & NBA superfan James Goldstein, to turn his tennis court into a runway-ready basketball court.
With the Larry O'Brien Trophy returning to Los Angeles for the first time since 2010 and the untimely death of Laker legend, Kobe Bryant, Mike Amiri’s S/S21 collection was full-clad with basketball-inspired pieces from basketball-shaped handbags to leather shorts. The collection’s effortless sportswear featured neutral-toned tailoring, arts district-influenced overalls and even a few “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” inspired looks. With their first flagship store opening on Rodeo Drive earlier this month, the Amiri team has continued to expand their product categories which was on full display in this collection with a variety of sunglasses, carry-all bags, and elegantly styled jewelry. Between the immaculate show setting, the deep-rooted LA references throughout the collection, and the music courtesy of Alan The Alchemist- Amiri continues to soar to new heights with much more on the horizon.
