A Closer Look: Inside 4GSeller's Hedi Slimane Archive

When it comes to collecting anything with a substantial secondary market value there first has to be a deep understanding and passion for said items. Some people enjoy watches, others enjoy art, but many people (especially those who frequent this site) collecting designer clothing has become commonplace with fashion enthusiasts in recent years. Since the launch of websites such as Grailed.com, the new generations have been able to discover the works of many talented designers through accessible price points and avid collectors within the community. We recently caught up with our longtime friend Vincent Ferraro aka “4gseller” to discover his expansive Hedi Slimane collection. I have known Vincent for a few years now through friends, nightlife, and our shared love for Hedi Slimane- and to think that the entire time I have known Vincent I had no idea how serious his collection actually was. Not only where their racks of tailoring, leather jackets, and other grail worthy pieces strung up on multiple racks in his living room, but also framed memorabilia which includes an original Dior by Hedi Slimane Babyshambles show invite as well as a framed note from Slimane himself. Like any devout collector, Vincent’s archive exceeds just the clothing itself, like Slimane’s design ethos it is a holistic lifestyle. Be sure to read our full interview with him below and swipe through the photos of his expansive archive.

For those who are unfamiliar with you or your seller profile, who are you?

“My birth name is Vincent Ferraro EST. 1990 - but to those of the online world - its “ 4Gseller” EST. 2009 New York, NY.”

What is your relationship with fashion?

“I have no etiquette with fashion, it’s not something I went to school for and I never learned how to sew or any of that background. Collecting, buying and selling was always a passion project strictly for me from the jump. Over the the past few years have I taken it to the next level with bigger archive pieces and putting them up for sale.”

When did you begin collecting and how did amass such a collection?

“My collecting started in 2010 the day I met what is now one of my best friends, John Devito.  I met up with this guy username ‘Youth_in_revolt’ from eBay for a Christophe Decarnin M65 Balmain Jacket. It was my first big purchase and the first time I ever met anyone off Ebay. We met on 14th street in front of the Apple store and naturally, I brought a friend because I thought this dude could of potentially be nuts. Long story short, he was a cool guy and strangely worked on Wall Street. But low key had THE SICKEST Hedi & Decarnin collections I’ve ever seen. Guy had over 50 jackets from all of the best seasons 03, 04, The horse Leather Balmain Perfecto, Quilted SS07 Dior Homme Moto, Every Color Waxed Luster jeans. Great shit, I was mind blown and hooked. He told me how he would raid the outlets and had to pay cash now because they blocked him from buying any more shit. I thought it was cool, he would sell his backstock and his profits would pay for him to keep a couple of items for himself. Fast forward some years, I took a page out of his book and also have to pay cash now at the outlets and use alternate names haha. Saint Laurent outlets put in a new protocol in order after John and I bought over 500 belts, 200 jackets, and probably over 2000+ accessories from SLP13-2016. We would go there and take every Hedi item in stock, In 3 weeks we would triple our money and go back for the next shipment. But back in Hedi SLP days, the sales and profit margins were much larger. Now, most of my collections is built from relationships with stylist and friends I’ve met through working in nightlife for over a decade.”

Hedi Slimane seems to be a prominent designer in your wardrobe- what attracted you to his designs initially and how do his latest designs at Celine compare to his previous work?

“Hedi no matter what his vision is for the collection always to me did it right. His simplistic view and rock aesthetic with perfect tailoring always spoke to me. It always feels like you got something unique & quality when Hedi is behind it. You can say I trust his vision. I also love how Hedi doesn’t go crazy with monograms or branding. His personal life seems to be on-brand with his work, no media outlets, and no bullshit. I respect that.

With the new stuff at Celine, it’s easy to see the DNA from Dior Homme & SLP. Even in the order, he is bringing SS19 Tailored monochromatic and formal suiting to SS21 “Dancing Kid” crazy colors and beach/ Coachella vibe.. reminds me of SLP FW13 to SS16 Surf Sound. We see the evolution of what he’s doing. The only thing that in my opinion, he fucked up on was getting involved with a low brow platform like Tik Tok… but hey times are changing do what you gotta do.”

You have some rare pieces from the Dior Napoleon jacket to some former celebrity-owned pieces- what is your favorite piece you own and why?

“Damn yeah so many great pieces! They all have there own place as my favorites.. right now tho my favorite GO TO is the permanent Collection Celine Oiled calf Moto. It’s the perfect mix of all the great jackets Hedi did at DH & SLP in one, I wear it a day into night. For a more wild piece The FW16 1/1 Sample all Python center zip goes off, thing is beautiful. And the AW19 Checkered lapel Celine Moto!”

“It’s not really the “who” that makes me want the item. It’s more the rarity of it. I  don’t know which items off the top of my head are going to be less produced until a season or 2 has passed. Then you can really grasp what items are limited and what’s more produced. Each season has its own grails, SS15 Psych Rock had great suede pieces and FW14 had great blazers/ peacoat. I like to grab a couple of those standout items from each collection and hold on to them.”

Outside of Slimane, you have been able to score a good amount of other grail worthy pieces from Chrome Hearts to Enfants Riches Deprimes- what can you say of those brands and some of the pieces in your collection?

“Outside of Hedi. ERD and Chrome have been a growing collection of mine. Again I love the rarity of items and the fewer produced the better. If I’m spending 1K on a hoodie I want to make sure i’m making 2K back on it. And that’s what the exclusivity of the item delivers for me. So the more I can get a hold on the better. There are items in my collection I know I won’t sell until the market for them calls for it but when it does I know I’m the only one with it, so if you want it to be ready to pay up.”

Is it hard to let any of these pieces go once they do sell?

“No, I have no emotional connection to anytime I own. I will sell you the shirt off my back in January.”

Lastly, are you currently searching for any grails at the moment and, if so, which?

“I’m always searching for new grails.. right now I’m searching for  SLP SS14 Damier Checkered double zip Moto & Decarnin Balmain double epaulet shoulder strap oiled Moto.”
