A Closer Look: Celine's Madison Avenue Flagship Store

Celine opened a new retail concept on New York's Madison Avenue on Monday. The store is the first designed by recently appointed creative director Hedi Slimane which blends the designer's signature aesthetics with artworks specific to the location.

The Madison Avenue store is the first redesign of a new retail strategy for Celine that will include similar flagships located in cities such as Tokyo, Paris, Los Angeles, London, Milan, Shanghai and Beijing.

The new Madison Avenue space replaced the existing Celine store, with a renovated space in SoHo to be next on the list for the brand. The recently-updated 5,000 square-foot space is comprised of wooden furniture over Basaltina floors, with white walls and black granite shelves.

Celine's CEO, Séverine Merle, talked with WWD and said that the renovations and additions of new flagships is intended to increase the brand's visibility and accommodate both the men's and women's lines.

“Celine has a great distribution network and high-quality visibility, but no large stores. We need to open flagships in major cities - larger stores that can accommodate men’s wear and newly expanded women’s collections,” she said.
