Runway: Raf Simons A/W 18'
Raf Simons has continued to be the only glimmer of excitement revolving around NYFW Men's for the past 3 seasons and this one was no different. Simon's presented his A/W 18' presentation last night (2/7/18) here in New York. The runway was set in the manner of a traditional Belgium feast that featured an assortment of fruits, cheeses, waffles, and wine, all of which was donated after the show. This collection reverted back to Raf's youth where he was introduced to the story of Christiane F., which was about the drug scene in Berlin in the late 1970's. You can see the influence throughout, especially with the sweaters that literally say "Drugs,” “XTC,” and “LSD” on them (definitely going to be a hot item later this Fall). Like most Raf collections nowadays with both CK and his namesake we saw a lot of the same fabric use such as patent leather on the gloves, heavy fine knit sweaters, and of course an assortment of bright colored wool coats. As per usual the consistency of Raf Simons to put out good collections has continued, but nothing groundbreaking in terms of radical change from collection to collection. The use of color, graphic patches, and the simple text has been a continued from collection to collection. One thing I will say about this show in particular is that the stage setting and the styling with the sweaters was really well done. I look forward to seeing influencers and A$AP Rocky busting out these new pieces in the street and on Instagram later this Fall. A big thank you to Raf for still showing in New York considering how much better Paris fashion week is. Be sure to take a look at this dope video recap of the show below.
