Runway: Amiri SS'18 Lookbook

With the recent death of Saint Laurent, due to Hedi Slimane's departure, Mike Amiri has been able to fill the void in the luxury rock star chic market with his eponymous label. Amiri is known for his stretch denim with leather padding and destressing, which has become the popular choice of denim by athletes & A-list celebrities alike. With the progression of the Amiri label from just denim and a couple of shotgun blasted t-shirts, now Amiri has expanded his line of accessories, footwear, and even a small womenswear label. That being said, Amiri presented is SS' 18 menswear collection on Vogue.com with 21 different looks all styled head to toe in Amiri jackets, shirting, denim, and footwear.

A couple of pieces are very synonymous with Hedi's designs at Saint Laurent. The new "chain boot" looks very similar to your classic SLP Wyatt boot just with a thicker chain. Regardless of its similarity, it's has an excellent shape and the thicker chain adds a little more of a raw edge look. The teddy jacket is also a reinterpretation of the classic SLP teddy, however the material use isn't just your typical wool. Amiri also added new color ways to his signature "Sunset" Sneaker, which includes electric blue, bred, and checkered. Outside of new footwear, Amiri delivers a variety of different bombers, leather jackets, and even tailoring options in the form of silk blazers. Some of my favorite pieces include the palm tree cardigan, the white silk blazer, and the reversible bomber/denim jacket.

Overall the collection is an improvement for Amiri, and there are a couple of pieces/ looks that I really do enjoy. The brand is growing up in a sense of style and direction, but is essentially filling the spot as the premier luxury fashion rockstar brand. As Amiri said in his write up with Vogue, "I'm not trying to cause a disruption in fashion, I'm just trying to deliver quality clothing that outlasts the hype."
