Libero Romanticizes Travel and Escape For Latest Collection

“The summer wind came blowin’ in from across the sea…”

Libero-Bocce

Sinatra croons as you stare out over the terrace, aperitif in hand. The afternoon spent playing Bocce with friends and family. A walk down the shore, the sun setting on another day in a Mediterranean paradise. An idealistic fantasy for sure, but one that romanticizes a necessary break from our reality. Libero composes a love letter to what was, and what will be again soon.

The Toronto-by-way-of-Italy brand’s newest collection, Sulla Terrazza, (“on the terrace”, in Italian) champions an urge to wander, to experience unfamiliar places and the people therein, scratching an itch many of us have gone without for so very long. Libero finds its stride in its most concise capsule-to-date. Here, the brand idealizes the experience of travel with an emphasis on dream chasing.

“[I’ve been] thinking about what I’d wear on a late-August night in the small towns of Italy where I used to live. Lightweight, stylish, free, and not feeling constricted by heavier, dense fabrics.”

For many who have been unable to leave their homes, see new cities, or indulge in the gifts of new cultures, an escape may sound appealing. This collection actualizes a collective dream of being “sulla terrazza” once again. Each collection tells a story, with every detail considered - this one, in particular, is a story of wanderlust, nostalgia, and uninhibited movement. Creative director Adam Appugliesi melds this with the brand’s ethos, one of timelessness and authentic expression. Handcrafted by Appugliesi’s Nonna, Michelina, this capsule sees quality Canadian craftsmanship interwoven with the brand’s Italian heritage. This collection’s focus on the quintessential Italian activity, Bocce, only furthers this, showing off the collection’s wearability.

“It’s not an Italian summer without Bocce in the backyard. It allows the collection to show its wearable features. I want you to enjoy the clothing. Wear them to play Bocce with your friends. Wear them to dinner.

Don’t let them sit on your closet shelves.”

A uniform for your Amalfi Coast vacation. Loose, comfortable, freeing, and uninhibited. What else is there to wear?

La Spiaggia

A 100% linen long sleeve quarter-zip evokes the sea breeze. Aptly named La Spiaggia, or “the beach”, a deep blue fabric channels the ocean, encouraging the wearer to connect with their surroundings - windswept hair, salty lips, the sand a welcome impediment on each step.

We’re in no rush to get anywhere, anyway. We’re just enjoying the sound of the waves and the easy summer wind.

La Restituta

“God forbid if one were to get Nonna Restituta’s Sunday tablecloth dirty at dinner.”

Named after Appugliesi’s grandmother, La Restituta asks the wearer to flow, accentuating femininity in its design. In a single garment, one finds comfort, nostalgia, and freedom of form. It’s evocative of the grounding safety and belonging of sitting around a dinner table (preferably grandmother’s), with all of the same decorative sensibilities.

Wear this while drinking espresso in the afternoon sun, or while passing a plate of food to the person on your left.

La Sera

Included in this capsule is a short and vest combo, whose name, La Sera, or “the evening”, subtly insinuates a need for movement. Constructed of Japanese cotton seersucker, this two-piece leaves the wearer wholly unrestricted and able to remain cool and comfortable in any situation.

Whether out on the town or bowling the last Bocce ball, donning these is as easy as it is breezy.

Sulla Terrazza Tee

In true Libero fashion, an accompanying cut-and-sew t-shirt imparts the vision of an entire collection into one standout graphic, which shows a self-referential portrait of a man, wearing a La Sera vest, taking in the view from a terrace overlook.

The Libero Sulla Terraza capsule releases Thursday, May 6th on LIBEROWORLD.CA.
