Cartier Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Tank Cintrée

With rumors floating over the weekend regarding Cartier’s 100th-year anniversary Tank Cintrée special edition we turned to the watch experts at Hodinkee.com for official confirmation. The news was officially broken by a few esteemed Cartier watch collectors and clients who were able to acquire one of the very limited pieces and give us a closer look.

The Cartier Tank is one of our favorite watches ever designed due to its timeless allure and understated yet elegant prowess. Originally released in 1919, the Tank has defined the idea of a timeless watch. Under the direction of Louis Cartier, the brand continued to develop variations of the original tank such as the Cintrée, Allongée, Francias, etc. The Cintrée was the first variation to come from the original tank design back in 1921. Translated as “curved”, the Cintrée featured an elongated and distinct curved shape which made the watch slightly larger and more comfortable to wear on the wrist. The 100th year anniversary Cintrée watch is a true testament to Louis Cartier’s design legacy. The watch features an eggshell white dial with Cartier’s signature blue hands, paired elegantly with a rich natural calfskin strap, and finished with a rich 18k yellow gold case. The watch will retail at $29,900 and with the interest in Cartier watches only continuing to increase among watch collectors (see record prices on the Cartier Crash Watch), one can imagine that the 150 pieces of the 100 Year Anniversary Cintrée are all but sold. While the watch may not be obtainable to the average consumer it is definitely something to marvel at and appreciate a timeless 100-year-old design has stood the test of time and remains one of the most iconic watches in the world. Be sure to take a closer look at the 100 Year Anniversary Tank Cintrée above and some of its predecessors below.
