Name: Alexander Roth

Age: 23

Location: New York City, NY

Occupation: Creative Consultant/Model

Favorite Stores: If I told you I’d have to kill you.

How did you get involved in fashion, and how would you best describe your occupation within the industry?

“I've always been interested in fashion and clothing but at first, didn't know how to break into the industry. I interned at Esquire Magazine in the summer of 2016, I learned the in and outs and was introduced to brands/designers/companies that I didn't even know existed. Before that, I was really only aware and interested in the basics of streetwear and trust me it showed. My time there really opened up my eyes to the possibilities of fashion, as well as the massive spectrum of cultures and influences that fashion pulls together. Currently, I'm a creative consultant and model.”

You've modeled in various campaigns, including Guess & Calvin Klein. What were those experiences like, and what have you taken away from them?

“I know this is cliche to say but it's true when I first started posting on Instagram and getting into all that I never thought I would be working with companies this big. Calvin specifically has been one of those Americana brands that I've been inspired by for years, I never thought I'd be working with them, let alone modeling for one of their campaigns. It's still crazy to think about. I have taken away a lot from these opportunities. You really never know who's watching you and you might just end up exactly where you want to be. Also, never take anything for granted.”

What is your favorite aspect of working with brands and other creatives within the industry?

“Getting to talk to and observe people who think differently from me is always a plus. Forever trying to learn new things and expand the way I think especially creatively.”

What direction do you want to take your career at this point?

“I want to keep a healthy balance of being in front of and behind the camera. It's a blessing to be able to work both ways but the work I do behind the camera is where I get the most pleasure - I feel as if it's much more fulfilling for me. Styling, casting, and art direction is what I'd like to focus more on. Have a couple of projects I'm working on right now that I'm super excited to share as things develop.”

You recently got back from Paris Fashion Week back in January. Tell us about that.

“Man, that was amazing. Did the best I could to get into the culture with what little time I had between shows and events. Glad I got to see some people who I only see around show season and catch up. 10 days in Paris was needed.”

What were some of your favorite moments from your first PFW?

“Have a few high points, honestly. Meeting some people I've admired for a while in the industry, and being able to attend shows for houses I've dreamed of seeing collections live for. Some backstage access and being able to capture it all on Manual (@manual_nyc) was even better. Got some really good content and memories from this trip that I'll never forget.”

Favorite pieces in your wardrobe right now?

”Anything that I've been handed down from my grandpa and my dad. Anything from them will always be priceless to me - forever my style inspirations. Have you seen my dads fits? Fire.”

What are some of your goals for 2019?

“To not doubt myself on the work I put out to the world, not to take myself so seriously and try to welcome more opportunities to work on myself harder - those are definitely my biggest goals. Career wise I have a couple milestones I want to reach but would rather keep them private.”

Do you have any advice to pass along? If so, what?

“Don't listen to people who are telling you to not follow your passion or anyone hating on what you're doing. Trust me, I've been there and it's all bullshit. If you have a passion and love what you do then do it and do it until people notice. Hard work pays off.”
