Runway: CELINE S/S19 by Hedi Slimane

Back in January, LVMH appointed Hedi Slimane to be the new artistic, creative and image director of CELINE following his 2-year hiatus upon his departure from Saint Laurent back in 2016. With his arrival at the French House, Hedi was also given the opportunity to design CELINE’s inaugural Menswear collection which was shown alongside the women's ready-to-wear during Paris Fashion Week.

Entering in on a drum roll, the attitude of Hedi Slimane’s CELINE immediately set in as the models strutted down the runway in polka dot covered dresses, sequined tops, pinstripe trousers, double-breasted jackets, thin ties, bibi hats, and of course the attitude-filled leather jackets that Hedi is known for. The men’s looks were typically monochromatic, taking us back to the darker aesthetic from his years at Dior, while also picking up right where he left off at Saint Laurent in terms of styling. These key characteristics of Hedi Slimane’s rock star style that he has established during his tenure at Dior and Saint Laurent were very prevalent at his first show at CELINE, and what else did we expect? Among some of the standout pieces included a pair of croc-embossed boots, a metallic varsity jacket, and the variety of slim fitting trousers.

However, this new style is drastically different than his predecessor Phoebe Philo and has received mixed reactions from the women clientele who have lived and died by the CELINE brand. Feel free to leave any thoughts or comments on the collection in the comments below.
