Runway: Reese Cooper F/W21

Merely a short year ago we were standing in the middle of The Palais De Tokyo in Paris at Reese Cooper’s first ever PFW presentation for F/W20. With so much promise and momentum for 2020, the world was forced to shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic that is still currently ravaging the globe. Based in Eagle Rock, California just outside of LA which has become the latest epicenter for coronavirus, Cooper presented his F/W21 collection digitally at the legendary Mt. Wilson Observatory. Los Angeles has not only been plagued with Covid-19 but also has faced some of the worst series of wildfires- scorching over 111,000 acres of the San Gabriel Mountains- near the site of Cooper’s F/W 21 runway presentation. Working closely with the US Forest Service, Cooper wanted to showcase the tremendous challenges caused by wildfires. With motifs such as ““the call of the wild should not be HELP!” embroidered on varsity jackets along with fireproof inspired pieces & printed skirts & leather with bespoke camo- which are made up of photos of the burnt forest floor and glowing embers. Cooper’s largest collection to date featuring both men’s and women’s collections worn androgynously with items that range from low key loungewear to elevated luxury items. Signature outerwear including a waxed cotton hunting jacket and a bomber are now complemented with tailored coats—all with the Reese Cooper touch transforming garments into a platform for raising awareness about climate change, fire prevention and forest management. “What happens to the land, happens to the people” is a mantra repeated through the collection, both through graphics as well as sustainable manufacturing techniques, including 100% botanical garment dyes. In addition, Cooper made his footwear debut with a hiking boot, aptly named “The Wilson.” Available in 4 colour options, the Italian made boot features a Vibram sole and is perfect for a trek through the mountains or city. Cooper has continued to show his inspiration and involvement with nature and the world around him season to season. As a brand that has roots in environmental issues and sustainable practices, Reese Cooper is much more than another LA-based brand. Be sure to swipe through the full collection above.
