Alexander Digenova Launches "Goodnight Melancholy" F/W20 Collection Online

In the ’70s, the Gramercy Park Hotel was a Rock N’ Roll haven for bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, David Bowie, and many more. The Hotel has been the source of countless moments in Rock’ N Roll history and not to mention its significance in Nightlife culture.  

Back in February, we visited Alexander DiGenova’s showroom in a hotel suite of the Gramercy - the same room in fact that Mick Jagger once threw a television out of the window, which was The Rolling Stone’s calling card. With the rich velvet curtains and Polaroids laid out on the couch, DiGenova’s “Goodnight Melancholy” showroom was set in an authentic backdrop. Taking inspiration from his late nights at the hotel’s dark and bourgeois Rose Bar lounge, DiGenova found the mystique, carefully curated artworks, and the lost-in-time energy that the hotel & lounge offered to fuel his creativity for the collection. Rose Bar Creative Director, Vincent Ferraro (who we recently interviewed) added that “I drive past it now (Gramercy Park Hotel) and all the lights of the marquee are half-lit and burned out. When we were there every light was on, symbolic for sure. It was full of craziness and life. I feel like that place is stuck in time or like when Alice went down the rabbit hole, removed from reality.”

In addition to questionable decisions at the Rose Bar at Gramercy that inspired this collection, DiGenova also notes that this collection is about when he marched to beat of his own drum and frequently went out with his West Village posse which includes nightlife’s elite, tastemakers and models. During these outings, the norm would include “…. stealing Porsche’s, trading computers for Sunday lap dances, and hacking Cipriani’s WiFi to finish school assignments.”

Launched as DiGenova’s first full formal collection, “Goodnight Melancholy” is rich with inspiration and personal experience. From hoodies with printed graphics of a ridiculous tab from Saint Barths’ Bagatelle to custom leopard/ guitar printed leather jackets, the collection spans 36 pieces in total ranging from outerwear, trousers, shirting, hoodies, and accessories. Footwear is also a brand new category for DiGenova this season as he introduces the “West Village” loafer which comes in rich black patent leather with a 35MM heel (pictured below).

Alexander DiGenova’s “Goodnight Melancholy” genderless collection has a refreshing take on unisex clothing with a new E-commerce platform that provides both male and female product shots for all ready-to-wear items. The collection will be available November 1st (Delivery 1), November 15th (Delivery 2) and December 1st (Delivery 3). A total of 36+ items will be released throughout the deliveries.
