The clothing of Marcel Everette is something to be examined closely. The shapes and silhouettes from the brand are designed to exhibit the beauty of practicality, but the true nature of Garrett Wilson’s design debut is found in fabrication and detailing. Soft but wear-hardened cottons, silver-woven cellulose and sturdy leather, to name a few, are used to create a collection that is experimental in nature but built to last. Adapting the influence of his avant-garde contemporaries, Wilson’s second collection ‘MachinE’ explores the use of natural materials in a discussion about the relationship between man and mechanism.

The mantra of the collection is formed through the idea of harmony between the natural and industrial, bringing forth the question: “are we able to wear the same metals we use to create things that can destroy us?”. The clothing is not aged preliminarily, a process many like-minded labels tend to instead choose for its aesthetic appeal. Rather, there is a sensitivity to this process of patination, intended to occur through the wearer’s own continuous wear, wash and use.

Grasping Wilson’s attention to detail requires a closer look at the details his clothing incorporates. Whilst silhouettes are clean and structured, Marcel Everette’s experimentation is seen in the detailing; whether it is the overlocked stitching binding together many pieces, 99% silver detailing, or garment-treated oil washing, the collection plays with a sense of uncalm within familiar shapes.

Building upon this, MachinE’s fourth installation is centred around the 99% Silver Collapsible Messenger Bag. The bag itself is lightweight, reversible and fully packable into a small pouch attached to the interior side. Adorned with heavy duty Raccagni zippers, the bag features a black carbon-coated face, with the interior coated in 99% silver - designed to oxidise through wear, the interior will gain character from the specific use of its wearer.
