Snark Park: A Lesson in Discovery at Hudson Yards

In a short two months, North America’s largest redevelopment project, Hudson Yards, will officially open its doors on the far west side of Manhattan. Housing a multitude of high-end retail experiences, art galleries, luxury apartments and the highest observation deck in the Western Hemisphere, Hudson Yards is going to be a powerhouse within the realms of retail, architecture and cultural experiences for the citizens of New York City and anyone who visits.

Hudson Yards Rendering

Slated to open shortly after the official Hudson Yards opening, a new concept from everyone's favorite hype artist, Daniel Arsham and the boys from Snarkitecture, is set to change the way the average person will look at the permeation of design in our daily life. What is officially an exhibition space, Snark Park will feature a tri-monthly schedule showcasing up-and-coming artists and designers. The space also doubles as a SquareSpace backed retail location for one-off collaborations and a permanent installation of Ronnie Fieg’s KITH Treats which will be slinging the best cereal topped ice-cream creations.

Arsham's end-goal for Snark Park is to show people the multi-faceted aspect that design and architecture have in our daily life. Whether it’s exploring an Arsham designed ball pit that’s moonlighting as a swimming pool or climbing through an iconic crack in the wall, opening up to a room full of pillars and totems, ripe for exploration and discovery for people of all ages. In a recent press release, Hudson Yards stated that, “Everyday objects and familiar settings will be reimagined, creating unexpected and memorable moments that challenge the mind to reassess visual cues and investigate the commonplace with a fresh curiosity”.

Snarkitecture

We are getting the impression that Snark Park might change the exhibition installation landscape, moving away from the average stoic and cold feeling gallery exhibits we are all used to, with a more hands-on and explorative role. Allowing people the avenue of educating themselves in the spirit of design has been a lifelong goal of Arsham's whose architectural processes and design cues can be seen throughout the world.
