A Closer Look: A-COLD-WALL* x Nike Zoom Vomero +5

Designer Samuel Ross’ three-year-old brand, whose thematic message involves British low-class uniforms finding themselves in a Frankenstein meld with high-class tailoring, has once again collaborated with Nike to perform legal necromancy, and raise the Vomero silhouette from the dead. Decked out in ACW and Nike branding, the Vomero +5 has been augmented with a brutalist inspired block attached to the heel. Previously seen in aggressive triple black, as well as a standoffish white and red colorway, Ross has recently taken to Instagram to reveal yet more variations for this zombie of a shoe.

If these latest product photos look a bit decrepit, that’s because they… are. A bold and left-of-center choice from a bold and left-of-center designer, Ross and Nike have refrained from applying the Polyurethane coating that most modern sneakers use to maintain their vibrancy, in hopes that regular wear and tear encourages these sneakers to discolor and develop a patina (think of your dad’s old, ratty, yellow Air Force Ones).

Look out for the release date for the two new colorways - best described as 1) iridescent and earthy and 2) blood - to be announced soon, and be sure to check out our showcase for A-COLD-WALL’s FW19 runway here.
