Yeezy Season 2: A Recap

Kanye West finally unveiled his sought after line yesterday at New York Fashion Week at the Skylight Modern. His show was only announced a few days prior, however, and was not a part of the official New York Fashion Week schedule, upsetting the designers that he in turn overlapped with. But in typical Kanye fashion, he knows his line is a big deal, and he knows people care enough to drop their plans and show up. Even the queen of fashion; Anna Wintour.

In the same style as his last show, Kanye’s models were insanely militaristic. Called out by “drill sergeants,” sets of four models at a time marched out. The really cool part about it? It was done from lightest to darkest colors so that when EVERYONE came out, it just looked like a giant fade. Pale models wore very pale clothes and had dyed blonde hair, and each following group would have slightly darker clothes, slightly darker hair, and slightly darker skin. So not only did Kanye show off his artistry in his clothing, but in his precise and well thought out presentation.

Rumored to have been completely severed from adidas, Kanye’s line did feature some new shoes that are sure to get everyone excited. Didn’t get the Yeezy 750s when they dropped in February? What looks like a new, darker colorway debuted yesterday so I’m sure you’ll have another chance to cop em soon. Kanye also showed off the Yeezy 950 boost- similar to a duck boot, you’re gonna want to rock them all winter.

The clothes presented were pretty similar to Yeezy Season 1- they look a bit worn, but super cozy. It featured a ton of big sweatshirts, parkas, and tons of body suits for women. The best thing about all of his pieces, though, is that they’re all totally ready to wear. The colors were relatively similar to his last line, but there were a lot more browns and far less of the militant green.

I’ve seen a lot of criticism about this line being way too similar to his last, but seeing as Kanye is a new designer, it’s safe to say that he has made his aesthetic known and plans to stick with it.

All of Kanye’s clothes aside, one of the most exciting parts of the show was without a doubt the new song that dropped. In the same way he released “Wolves,” Kanye released “Fade” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Post Malone. So now not only do we have more clothes to get hyped about, but a new track too.
